Odisha is regarded as one of the backward state of India and
also a lot of programmes related to developments are coming in. many of the
schemes are being implemented by government and non government agencies. But as
per result is concerned, there is no significant change in the situation of the
mass. Most of the projects reported as “failed” due to lack of proper planning,
misallocation of resources, implication of inappropriate technology,
ineffective training methodology and above all lack of public participation.
All these happened due to lack of planning which indicates to proper situation
analysis and research before starting a programme. Keeping in view of this,
some lead development professionals, researchers and media professionals from
Odisha felt the need for a research based organization with primary focus in
the development of the community. With respect to their opinion, Organisation
for Social Research and Development (OSRD) was constituted by a group of
intellectuals to cater to the development organizations through communication
research and training in 2008. Mr. Premananda Mishra, a journalist in
profession is given the charge to lead the team for this purpose. In October,
2009, OSRD was registered under India trust Act, 1882 bearing registration
number 09/2009. Though new, OSRD is working in a mission mode and hopes to
contribute in the development process of the region. Till date, OSRD is linked
with a research based organization from Delhi, Socio economic research and
Development Organisation (SERDO) and coordinating the programme in odisha. The
team leader is also selected for the fellowship under the citizen journalism
program VIVIDH of video volunteer (visit www.videovolunteers.org for more information). Steps have been taken
to form different opinion groups in 30 villages to form opinion and report to
state level print and electronic media about issues of the community and demand
for solution, form complaint in the state grievance cell of Government of
Odisha and follow up the issue, address the human rights issue emerging in the
area. OSRD has been helping to the best it can to the community by providing
information on different livelihood options, government schemes and course of
action in need. |
